Japanese Black Pine
A bold and character-filled Japanese Black Pine (Pinus thunbergii) with a dramatic low, sweeping form and excellent potential for continued development. This tree already displays strong trunk movement and an aged character that gives it the feeling of a pine shaped by years of wind and exposure.
The long horizontal movement creates an especially interesting foundation for a windswept, semi-cascade, or dramatic informal design. The existing deadwood adds another layer of rugged character, while healthy green needles and multiple growing points provide material for future branch selection and refinement.
Currently planted in a training container, this Japanese Black Pine is best viewed as a developing/pre-bonsai with substantial character already established rather than a finished bonsai.
Features: Japanese Black Pine • Dramatic sweeping trunk movement • Existing deadwood character • Strong design potential • Healthy active foliage • Excellent candidate for wiring and branch refinement • Developing bonsai/pre-bonsai
Outdoor bonsai. Japanese Black Pine thrives with abundant sunlight and is one of the better pine species for the Dallas climate. Provide full sun, excellent drainage and good airflow, while paying close attention to watering during extreme summer heat.
A great tree for someone who wants a Japanese Black Pine with character already built into the trunk and the opportunity to take the design in their own direction.
