When larger branches are removed or significant pruning cuts are made, the exposed tissue can begin to dry out. Cut paste creates a protective covering over the wound, helping reduce moisture loss while providing an environment that supports the tree's natural callusing and healing process.

This traditional Japanese bonsai paste has a clay-like consistency that becomes soft and workable when kneaded between your fingers. Simply take a small amount, roll and soften it with your fingers, then press it securely over the freshly made cut.

Over time, the paste will harden and eventually begin to loosen or fall away as the wound develops. At that point, the area can be inspected and additional paste applied if necessary.

Conifer Formula — Green Lid

This green-lid formula is intended for conifers and uses a darker-colored paste that blends more naturally with conifer bark and pruning wounds.

The white-lid version is intended for deciduous and other types of bonsai. The primary difference between the two versions is the color of the paste, allowing it to better blend with the type of tree being treated.

How to Use

Take a small amount of paste and knead it between your fingers until soft and pliable. Apply it directly over the freshly cut area, extending slightly beyond the edge of the wound to create a secure seal.

Periodically inspect the area as the tree heals. Once the paste naturally dries, loosens, or falls away, inspect the developing scar and reapply if additional protection is needed.
